For all of you interested! This was the progress of Loki’s sceptor. The only thing that we made in that costume. :)

I actually based my entire progress on THIS amazing tutorial! I was lucky to have found an awesome tutorial actually! So basically, you guys can make your own from reading that. I really didn’t do much different — except be lazier, haha! Her’s a heck of a lot more accurate and nicer than mine!

The base of the sceptor is made from PVC piper and foam core. The gold plating is all craft foam, and the LED was wired by me!

A bow/arrow/quiver set I made for a commission. Phew! Now that the commission is pretty much done, I can start and finish Ghirahim’s cosplay and the Madoka bow commission all for AX. The bow is made from one long length of fake plant wire, layered with craft foam on each side. The handle is a bast of foam wrapped in suede  and a simple wax string finishes it. It’s not functional, but hopefully its convincing! The arrows are wooden dowels and feathers and foam tips (the three in the quiver arent removable. The quiver is made from a leather covered plastic cup tube… thingy, a belt and googly eye rivets. :)

A quick trick for cosplayers!

Spray painted Googly eyes make the best metal rivets! And they come in various sizes for all sized rivets.

I have also used dots of just hot glue itself. All the metal rivets on my Hawke cosplay are just silver painted hot glue dots.

I am currently closing Commissions. Unless you have already emailed me before today — no commission emails from today onward can be accepted. I’m really sorry about this guys, but I’m officially booked until SDCC this summer, and I have four of my own costumes to make before them. All quite big and intensive. Commissions are already running behind, and I don’t want to take on any more projects that could harm those I am already doing commissions for. For those of you that have emailed me before this post — you are safe and you should be hearing from me soon. My email & ask box however, is still open to advice, tips, help on anything or research. I can still give you price quotes, but please be aware that I am most definitely booked for commissions until August 2012. That means, I could not start on anything new until then. Finally, all things change. Hopefully with how fast I normally work, bookings will clear up sooner than that. But I can’t make any promises at this time. I will announce when they are open again!

In other news I altered some shoes of mine for a school project!

I took some old black ankle boots and made them into a pair of ‘heavy’ armor boots with some spare craft foam.

And then I took some old oxford heels and made them into a steampunk set of syringe heels.

I think the steampunk set came out a bit funky, and I want to redo the platforms entirely before I wear them out and about.

I do like my armor pair though.

I’m also currently making an executioner’s axe for a college buddy of mine, who is a film student that needs a prop for his movie project.

It has to be durable enough to knock around a few styrofoam heads, so I’ve made it out of two sheets of thick chipboard and a center of foam core. I’ve also filled it with spackling paste like the Fett armor.

It’s pretty strong! I was whacking away at my wig head for like 20 minutes listening to some MSI. XD

I love my life.

Dragon Age II, Basrath Kata - Cosplay Progress

OMGAH I AM SO BEAT. So this is actually a second Basrath Kata. The first one got ruined. I bought a new piece of wood, cut it all out on the bandsaw and then sanded down all the edges with a dremel (OH MY GOD SO TIRED).

The tsuba is also all cut and detailed with my dremel. And so is the handle bit. BUT ITS DONE (being formed). Now I just gotta wait for the primer to seal.

Then its silver, hammered grey, handle wrappings, and DONE. Ready for Bioware.

Okay guys, so heres the rundown of the armor process that I formulated for Hawke.
The cut out shapes of craft foam, glued to together
Mod Podging the craft foam. 1-2 coats, both sides, using a foam brush (no streaks or hair)
Silver spray paint base. I use Montana sprays. Both sides, one or two coats.
I lay my spray paint on THICK, because the foam absorbs it fast, and to make it look like welded metal.
I use A rust hammer spray paint to get a good metal feel.
QUICKLY before the paint drys, scratch back in into the hammered paint to reveal the silver coat beneath. Makes it look all worn.
Getting some of that silver spray paint on a brush, I go back and add some silver to the edges of the pieces. Basically wherever the armor would logically be cleaner (outer creases and such, use your reference pictures
Ta da.
This is the ‘weathering’ part. I use silver paint here and then a mixture of brown, red and black.
Using the silver paint, I dab a bunch on and then IMMEDIATELY wipe it away. Just use a paper towel and rub in some silver paint to make it seem washed.
Pretty much the same idea here, just rub the brown/red/black mixture into the places that would be logically dirty. Again use your reference pictures.
And thats that!

Giving away a crown?
So this is the original Albion crown I made. I touched it up with a better golden finish and it looks much better!!
But now I have two crowns, and I only need one. I can’t decide what to do with it. I’m not sure if anyone would be interested in buying it… maybe I’ll do one of those reblog freebies? Like if you reblog it, I’ll randomly generate a number and give it away?
Any advice?
