This is my final art piece of this year!

I had to make a piece that was political. So I decided to do a photoshoot of myself crossdressing as a man in a fedora.

Did you guys know that the fedora hat was actually a symbol for Women’s rights? The fedora is originally from a play about ‘Princess Fedora’ a woman who is a crossdresser.

I decided to pay homage to that, and take back the symbol that stands for women, rather than the appropriated meaning of gangsters and masculinity made by men. I think its hilarious that this hat is coveted by guys for some kind of ‘swagger’ that was originated by a woman who did it better.

Thanks to my friend Alex for letting me borrow his clothes!

So for my Style & Substance class we had to create our own Absolut Vodka ad. Absolut ads usually depict their bottle in a creative way and then have a tagline like ‘Absolut Perfection’

Our tagline had to be Absolut ‘Your Last Name’ and the ad had to depict what you are known for in your work.

So I created some armor gauntlets this week and did a photoshoot! They came out so great I decided to share em with ya!

The coat I’m making is one from my Apple designs! This one is a bit more difficult, because I literally drew the most impossible front closure/lapel combo. Right now I’ve got my pieces all set (also not using any patterns) and ready to be sewn together. Then comes the green collar, lapels and lining.

I started it today — It has to be finished by tomorrow night and ready for friday!! >_<

So in case you guys have been wondering if we were dead or something…

Nope! Just ridiculously busy. This Friday is my Senior Art Show, and I decided I didn’t really have anything impressive to show. So I decided to make two costumes. One gown and one coat. In a week.

I made this dress in about two days! It’s made from chiffon and mesh, with some upholstery fabric for the bars. It’s based on a concept for character that is a figurehead — or a puppet within some grander organization. I wanted the woman to feel constrained. Beautiful, elegant and caged, like her movement and walking was as scripted as her speeches.

I am using NO PATTERNS. Which sucks.

So, my RISD senior show is in two weeks! And this was the photoshoot me and my senior group did for the posters advertising our gallery show. The gallery title is, Beware the Ides of March. So we did a Ceasar theme. Fellow Risd followers interested in coming and seeing my work — the show is on March 15th at 6:00pm!

So as I mentioned last week — I was assigned a project to draw 88 illustrations of an apple.

And I’m finally DONE! Here’s all 88 designs if you would like to see them.

I decided to do costume/fashion concepts based on Apples for men and women. There’s green apples, red apples, gala apples, apple strudel, apple cider, turnovers, apple pie, caramel apples, appletinis, apple fritters and more.

This week on Sheila’s costume concept design homework… Uniforms!

More RISD homework! I know I’m super behind on our ask box, cosplay progress and advice stuff lately, sorry! My last year at semester at RISD is dominating all my time!

For my Game Assets class this week we had to design a character, his home and the fuana of his world in a potential video game.

My design is based off a USB drive. I figured it would be fun to recharge with Gigabit flowers and live in a little USB hub battling off viruses.

AND SO IT STARTS! For my Style & Substance class at RISD, we were assigned a week to draw 88 illustrations of an apple. It’s the famous dreaded 88 project. (Sometimes its 88 trees and sometimes 88 houses.) I got apples. So to keep my direction of being a costume designer and make this project work to my portfolio I’m doing clothes. Wish me luck!

The last class for my Jewelry course was today and it was awesome!

I’m really proud at having learned how to design and CNC mill work that can be casted like this. Making something solid and pre-planned so meticulously is so satisfying.

I made a top-stitch themed ring, and beside you can see the Dishonored Jessamine Cameo I also made. Everything was casted in sterling silver.

I’ll post better pictures of our wedding rings next!
